EMMA HORWITZ is a writer from New York City, who was born during a cold month in the year 1992.
Her play Mary Gets Hers (NYT Critic’s Pick, directed by Josiah Davis) was produced by the Playwrights Realm at MCC in the Fall 2023. Alongside Bailey Williams, she co-created Two Sisters Find a Box of Lesbian Erotica in the Woods, which was produced in Spring 2025 with Rattlestick Theater and New Georges at HERE, following a workshop production in Winter 2024 with the Exponential Festival.
Emma was the 2024/2023 Page One Resident & 2022/2021 Writing Fellow with the Playwrights Realm, an alum of Clubbed Thumb’s Early Career Writers’ Group, & is an Affiliated Artist with New Georges, where she received a 2022 Audrey Residency. She has held residencies at the Eugene O’Neill Theater Center’s National Playwrights Conference (Bogdonoff), the William Inge Center for the Arts, Erik Ehn’s Stillwright, and elsewhere. Her work in theater has been further supported by places like The Brick, Mercury Store, New York Theater Workshop, New York Stage and Film, The Hearth, and the Williamstown Theater Festival, among others. Fiction and comix have been published in print and online at Joyland Magazine, Two Serious Ladies, Vol. 1 Brooklyn's Sunday Stories, Spiral Bound, Moon Missives, McSweeney's Internet Tendency, etc. Winner of the 2022 Chelsey/Bumbalo Playwriting Award for The Executrix. Alongside Lucas Baisch, Emma co-edited the third edition of 53rd State Press’ Occasional.
As an educator, Emma currently serves as the Program Assistant for the Rita and Burton Goldberg Hunter MFA Playwriting Program at Hunter College, and has taught playwriting at Brown University, Mount Holyoke College, New York University, and the Rhode Island School of Design.
